Does my Grand Rapids Press newspaper have wrinkles?
Wrinkles are caused by friction between newsprint and press rollers.
Water-based flexographic ink, which is used to print some newspapers,
causes greater friction than oil-based inks that are typically used
to print newspapers. Though flexo ink contributes to wrinkling, it
nevertheless has superior graphics reproduction capabilities and
is non-toxic to users and the environment. It also does not rub off
on readers' hands and clothes.
